New Monts Rosset chairlift

St Gervais has a brand new chairlift for the 2011/2012 season. A six man detachable chair has replaced the old, creaky, 1981 vintage Monts Rosset lift, reducing the journey time from over 14 minutes to just six minutes.
With a capacity of 2700 skiers an hour, the new lift will whisk you at 5.5 metres a second from 1277m altitude to 1746 m. With easy access from the Bettex by a blue piste now equipped with snow cannon, the Monts Rosset will be a fast alternative way into the Evasion system. The old Marmire red run connecting the Finance to the bottom of the lift has been extensively remodelled and now boasts snow cannon on it's entire length. A brand new piste starts where the pylons intersect the Finance and runs under the lift down to where it crosses the Marmire.

While we personally are upset at the impact that this new replacement lift will have on our 'private' playground of the Mont Rosset skiing area, we can only applaud the modernisation and improvement of the whole St Gervais lift system, especially at a time when a 6 million euros investment is not an everyday occurrence.

Below is a slideshow of a few pictures of the construction of the new lift. (If you want to repeat the viewing, click in the black area at the bottom of the frame rather than on the central arrow)
