Welcome to our Chalet, La Vieille Ferme |
|
La Vieille Ferme is an authentic savoyard farmhouse, originally built in 1860, beautifully restored and modernised to add comfort to its' natural charm and warmth. Situated overlooking the spa village of St.Gervais, there is a stunning view of the Mont Blanc and the Chaine des Fizz.
There is ample parking and a large south facing garden which is ideal for relaxing, painting or just admiring the view. The terrace in front of the farmhouse is a suntrap, even in the middle of winter. Wake up to the summit silhouetted by the rising sun. Watch through binoculars as intrepid climbers arrive at the very top of Mont Blanc.
Marie herself does the cooking. She serves a rich variety of cuisine , from the best of the renowned Savoie specialities, to dishes that have their origins all over the world. The only complaints we seem to get here are that guests go away slightly larger than when they arrive! However, Marie's cooking is one of the many reasons why these same guests return again…and again…
Whether as a base for your summer holidays, winter skiing and snow-shoeing, or just long weekend breaks, the farm is superbly positioned not only for it's proximity to an incredible array of skiing areas but also for some of the most spectacular hiking trails in the world. And if you have never seen the mountains in autumn, it could be that you have missed out on one of nature's most spectacular sights: the leaves turning stunning fiery colours, set against a backdrop of the mountain tops powdered with the first snows of winter, all bathed in the crystal light of the Alps.
The farmhouse sleeps up to 14 guests in five bedrooms, including twin, double and family rooms.
There are four bathrooms with four W.C.'s. Unusually, we have a separate dining room with a wood-burning stove which is overlooked by two cosy mezzanine balconies where one can relax with a book or music. A large attractive lounge looks out over the village of St Gervais and has stunning views of the Mont Blanc and the Domes de Miage. We also have a separate TV room with satellite Television. Jeremy and Marie own La Vieille Ferme and live there all year round. They are dedicated to meeting the needs and requirements of their guests. Marie is French and Jeremy is English, which combination we think gives us an openness to cultures and ideas (except during France/England Grand Slam matches), that makes the ambiance convivial and welcoming.
Jeremy is a great walking enthusiast and photographer and loves to share his knowledge of this area which he has been walking for more than twenty years. Marie has known the valley all her life, is an excellent cook and a very good skier.
Their greatest pleasure will be to help you discover the wonders of the area in winter and in summer!
By plane: We can provide Geneva Airport transfers. There are now EasyJet flights from all over the UK to Geneva, which makes weekend breaks more than just a possibility.
By train: You can catch a Eurostar from Waterloo to Lille and connect with the overnight sleeper to St. Gervais/Le Fayet. We, of course, will come and pick you up from the station.
Driving: The Autoroute Blanche ends at St. Gervais/Le Fayet so from Calais, it is motorway all the way (approx. 8 hours drive). Out of school holidays, we do special long weekend breaks. You can leave the office on Friday lunchtime, and be back on Monday, refreshed, bronzed, having spent all weekend in the high mountain air!
